Schlager moves to Leipzig

Midfielder leaves Wolves for RB Leipzig.

Xaver Schlager will be wearing RB Leipzig colours next season after triggering a release clause in his VfL Wolfsburg contract. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

Austria international Schlager joined the Wolves from RB Salzburg in summer 2019 and went on to make 81 competitive appearances for the Green-and-Whites. During that time, the 24-year-old managed three goals and nine assists.

“A very enjoyable and defining period”

“I’m very happy that I made the step to the German Bundesliga at the time and I felt very welcome at VfL right from the off,” said Schlager. “It was a very enjoyable and defining period for me, and I learned a lot. It’s now time though for me to take the next step. I’d like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for three wonderful years and wish VfL all the best.”

We in turn would like to thank Xaver for his dedication and commitment and wish him all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch.
