The draw for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League has thrown up a rematch of last season’s final between VfL Wolfsburg and holders Olympique Lyon. The first leg will be played on 20/21 March 2019 in France, followed by the return leg a week later (27/28 March) at the AOK Stadion. The exact dates and kick-off times will be confirmed in the next few days. If Stephan Lerch’s side come through this battle between the two-time winners and the record champions, they will face the winners of the match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, which will be played over 20/21 April and 27/28 April. The final of this season’s competition takes place in Budapest on 18 May.
“Doesn’t get better”
“It’s an absolute clash of the titans in Europe – it doesn’t get better,” said VfL Ladies sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “Both clubs have played a big part in the recent history of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Unlike two years ago, we’re at home in the second leg and we’re going to give everything to get through to the next round.”
