VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Kevin Paredes from American top-flight club D.C. United. The 18-year-old, who as well as US citizenship also holds a Dominican Republic passport, passed a medical in Wolfsburg on Friday and signed a contract with the Wolves until summer 2026. The 1.75-metre-tall left-footer, whose preferred position is on the left wing, will wear the number 40 shirt for the Green-and-Whites.

“Eager about the new challenge”

“We’re very happy that Kevin was quickly convinced by our philosophy and our path, and that he’s joining us,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “Despite his age he’s already gained some experience at first-team level, and as well as the left wing he can also play in the centre. In addition, he brings pace and dynamism, he’s very agile and nimble on the ball, covers a lot of ground on the pitch and has a really good mentality.”

Paredes is looking forward to starting life in his new home and getting to know his new teammates. “I can hardly wait to get going at VfL,” he said. “My first impressions of the facilities here are awesome. I’m very pleased to be here and I’m eager about taking on the new challenge and succeeding with VfL.”

Professional debut at 16

Paredes underwent his football education at the D.C. United academy and made his professional debut aged 16 for Loudoun United FC, the Washington club’s reserve team, in the American second division on 26 September 2019, coming on in a 4-1 win at home to Swope Park. After a total of four appearances for Loudoun, in which he posted one assist, Virginia-born Paredes returned to D.C. United in 2020. Since then he has made 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting two. Paredes has also netted twice in five outings for the United States U16 team.
