An extremely eventful year now draws to an end. In order to reflect on the soon to have passed 365 days, to review the events which took place around VfL Wolfsburg and to cast a glance forward at what awaits the club in 2018, on Thursday, December 28th, the VfL fans gathered behind the North Stand of the Volkswagen Arena. The reason for the gathering was an annual appointment, which has long-since become an obligatory programme for the Wolves fateful: The traditional 'Tonnenfeuer' (Fire-barrels) event, organised by the 'Fan-Project' and the ‘Supporters Wolfsburg’.
Once again the barrels of fire from the Fan-Project crackled at the Volkswagen Arena, where hundreds of fans gathered to enjoy the post-Christmas atmosphere in relaxed atmosphere with delicious food and warm drinks, such as Glühwein (mulled-wine) or hot-punch, to ring out the past year 2017 reflectively. Thanks to the participation of several official Green-White fan-clubs, the selection of wonderful specialities available at the specially arranged Winter-Market was more than extensive. Even the youngest of the VfL fans was catered for, as the possibility of baking ‘Stockbrot’ (dough on a stick) over the open fire was also provided.
VfL fan-representative Holger Ballwanz praised the gathering: "Year-for-year, the event confirms just what wonderful fans we have. It’s always wonderful to get together again around the ‘Tonnenfeuer’ at the end of the year. In this wonderful atmosphere, we fuelled our enthusiasm for what’s to come in 2018."
