Reflecting and celebrating

VfL fan rang out the year at the traditional barrel fire at the Volkswagen Arena.

Die Fans des VfL-Wolfsburg versammeln sich wie jedes Jahr an der Volkswagen Arena, um gemeinsam das Tonnenfeuer zu genießen.

An eventful year is drawing to a close. Yesterday, VfL fans met behind the north stand of the Volkswagen Arena to review the 365 days that will soon have passed, to look back on events surrounding VfL Wolfsburg and to look ahead to 2023. The reason for the get-together was an annual event – up until the coronavirus pandemic – that many Wolves fans view as almost an obligation: the traditional barrel fire organised by Wolfsburg supporters.

Coming together in a relaxed atmosphere

Once again, the fire blazed in the barrels in front of the Volkswagen Arena, which was the responsibility of the volunteer youth fire brigade. More than 300 VfL fans gathered in a relaxed post-Christmas atmosphere and enjoyed delicious food and warm drinks such as mulled wine and punch or bratwursts, waffles and roasted almonds, while also getting the chance to ring out 2022. Thanks to the participation of several fan clubs, the selection of various specialities for the Green-and-Whites was more than comprehensive. And the youngest VfL fans were also catered for as they could bake their own campfire bread over the open fire.
