Pre-season continues in Austria

The Wolves start their summer training camp in Styria.

The temperature gauges were at a stifling 31 degrees at 12:15 on Thursday afternoon as the green-and-white party arrived at their summer training camp in Schladming, Austria. After a calm and pleasant flight to Salzburg, the 27 players plus coaches and other staff were given two team buses to take them to the Falkensteiner training grounds, some 90 kilometres away. Five years ago, in summer 2019, VfL also had their pre-season training in Schladming.

Two attractive friendlies

The nearby Schladming Stadium training pitch will be where the Wolves fine-tune their preparations over the next eight days before the season gets under way on 19 August with a DFB Cup tie. The training camp will feature two friendlies against top-class opposition, the first coming this Saturday, 3 August, in Irdning against Como 1907, who have just been promoted to Italy’s Serie A (kick-off 16:30 CEST). A week later, the team will fly home via London, where they will take on Brentford on Saturday 11 August (kick-off at 19:45 local time / 20.45 CEST).

Vranckx to come later

Rogerio, Lukas Nmecha and Bartosz Bialek are all missing the trip due to injury while Kevin Paredes is on duty at the Olympics. Aster Vranckx has also stayed behind, with the Belgian midfielder attending a medical consultation, although he will link up with the team after that. The following 27 players took part in the first training session in the afternoon: Kofi Amoako, Mohamed Amoura, Maximilian Arnold, Ridle Baku, Kevin Behrens, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Manuel Braun, Bennit Bröger, Nicolas Cozza, Bence Dardai, Kilian Fischer, Yannick Gerhardt, Kamil Grabara, Moritz Jenz, Jakub Kaminski, Niklas Klinger, Maxence Lacroix, Joakim Maehle, Lovro Majer, Marius Müller, David Odogu, Pavao Pervan, Mattias Svanberg, Tiago Tomas, Patrick Wimmer, Jonas Wind and Cedric Zesiger.
