Points shared in Freiburg

VfL Women had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to SC Freiburg.

VfL Wolfsburg Women were unable to take all three points for the first time this season, in their fourth match of the campaign. As was the case in 2020/21, the She-Wolves’ trip to Freiburg in the FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga ended in a draw - with the scoreboard this time showing a 2-2 scoreline. Tabea Waßmuth (3') and Dominique Janssen (54') were on target for the visitors.

Before the next league game on Sunday 10 October at home to newly-promoted 1. FC Köln (kick-off 16:00 CEST), the Green-and-Whites have Matchday 1 of the UEFA Women's Champions League group stage to focus on. Head coach Tommy Stroot's team face English league winners Chelsea FC Women on Wednesday 6 October (kick-off 21:00 CEST).

Post-match reaction

Tommy Stroot: “We knew the strengths of Freiburg - and you could see that today. But of course we also have to look at our own mistakes. Especially for the goal we conceded to make it 2-1 to them, or in the phase before they equalised to make it 1-1, we didn't always defend instances the way we wanted to. We simply have to get rid of these issues, that is vital. We know that we are in a transitional phase and that this can happen, but of course it feels bad. We're disappointed, there's no question about that. But now it's our job not to get bogged down by the result, but to quickly turn our focus to Chelsea. We have to take the good things with us and improve on the things that weren’t so good.”
