“Play to our highest level”

The Wolves will play their last match of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season against a Bayern Munich team already been crowned champions.

While the men from Munich have already guaranteed top spot, the Green-and-Whites still have it all to play for as they look to keep a tight grip on sixth spot and ensure direct qualification for the UEFA Europa League. How the Wolves intend to take points off the most successful team in Germany league history was just one of the questions VfL head coach Oliver Glasner fielded at the pre-match press conference. Other topics included…

…FC Bayern: “Bayern are obviously incredibly strong at the moment and on absolutely top form. The way they look right now, you’d say that they’re unbeatable. Nevertheless, we want to give it everything that we’ve got left in the tank one last time in the Bundesliga this season  and make life as difficult as possible for Bayern – and ultimately win the match.”

…how they are approaching the game: “We need to play to our highest level in every aspect. That means that we will have to remain very compact, we cannot afford any mistakes in defence and we always need to be alert, since Bayern are very flexible. They have different combinations and players who are very strong when it’s one-on-one.”

…squad availability: “Marcel Tisserand will be out as he has muscle problems. There is still a question mark over Xaver Schlager as he’s strained an interior knee ligament. Jerome Roussillon only came back to training today after missing the rest of the week due to a calf problem. I think he’ll be fit by Saturday though.”

…whether the captain will play: “Josuha Guilavogui has been fit and back in training for a while now, which means that he’s putting his hand up for a spot in midfield – as is the case with Yannick Gerhardt, Xaver Schlager and Max Arnold. The ones I’ll end up picking will be the ones who I think will be able to help us the most in the last match of the season.”
