„Our contribution to football development in China“

With the help of VfL Wolfsburg, Volkswagen Group China are launching a learning platform for young Chinese footballers.

VfL Wolfsburg have been implementing joint projects together with Volkswagen Group China (VGC) and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) to promote Chinese youth football since 2013. The focus has always been on instructing and training Chinese youth coaches, but also on promoting children and young people.

With the help of VfL Wolfsburg, Volkswagen are now launching the "Youth Football Online Camp", a new WeChat mini programme, and the first online education platform with a focus on youth football in China. From now on, valuable training ideas and programmes for young footballers can be used regardless of the location. The free mini programme includes technique and tactics training, and puts health, safety and football spirit at the heart of every session. "We have a long-standing partnership with Volkswagen Group China, which we have filled with life even in these difficult times of the pandemic.  We are pleased to share our knowledge digitally in video form again this year,  and thus contribute to football development in China," says VfL Managing Director Michael Meeske.

Green and white training content

This is the second time that the Wolves have been producing this kind of online content. Last year, Volkswagen Group China and VfL also had to get creative due to the corona pandemic. The "Train-the-Trainer-Project" (TTT project) was then converted into an online version, resulting in experiences that were also useful for the "Youth Football Online Camp". On the one hand, the courses of the new mini programme make use of Volkswagen's extensive resources and, on the other hand, they draw on the know-how of the Wolves within their 37 courses for trainers. VfL designed all video units according to their grassroots football philosophy, and divided them into four key areas: introduction, training, competition, coaching. It’s mainly about practical units, but some theoretical content was also designed. The "Youth Football Online Camp" is the continuation of an extremely successful cooperation so far. In November 2019, Volkswagen were awarded the "Silver Award" at the AFC's "Dream Asia Awards" for their outstanding contribution to the development of youth football in China.
