After Yannick Gerhardt was given the No.31 shirt for the 2020/21 campaign, another VfL player has been able to change to his favourite number. Marin Pongracic has been wearing No.22 since he joined the Wolves last winter, but will be delighted to reclaim his treasured No.34.
Still No.22 for the current Europa League campaign
Like Gerhardt, German-born Croatia U-21 international Pongracic will keep the old jersey number for the remainder of the UEFA Europa League campaign which was brought to a halt in March and will start up again in August, as this competition still counts as part of the 2019/20 season.
Why 34?
The 22-year-old also wore No.34 with his former club RB Salzburg, and the choice of number stems from the fact that he was born in the Bavarian town of Landshut, and the postcode from the area he hails from ends with 34.
