The second international break of 2021 is over for VfL Women’s internationals – and all the She-Wolves have come back fit and healthy.
Hendrich on the scoresheet
Of the six She-Wolves who were called up to the German squad, only Kathrin Hendrich – who scored the second goal in the win over Australia – and Alexandra Popp got playing time. The match between Germany and Norway featured no fewer than four VfL players, with captain Popp and Ingrid Engen playing 90 minutes while Karina Saevik came off the bench and Hendrich was substituted. The two-time world champions recovered from conceding an early goal to convincingly win through 3-1 in the end.
Pajor crowns international comeback
Fridolina Rolfö was named in Sweden’s starting line-up for their 1-1 draw against world champions USA, as Rebecka Blomqvist stayed on the bench. The pair then swapped roles in the 4-2 victory over Poland, with Blomqvist starting. There was She-Wolves interest on both sides in this meeting, with Katarzyna Kiedrzynek lining up in goal for the Poles and Ewa Pajor marking her comeback for her country with two goals.
Denmark and Sofie Svava enjoyed their first international matches of this year, which both took place away from home. Svava started in a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland before watching the 1-1 draw against Wales.
Finally, the Green-and-Whites’ Dutch duo of Dominique Janssen and Shanice van de Sanden suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain before a 5-0 success against Australia. Janssen was involved in both games, while van de Sanden only featured against Spain.
