While most of the Wolves are already on holiday or catching up with their families, several players still have work to do, with nine members of the VfL camp linking up with their respective national teams. The first UEFA Nations League group games are scheduled for the start of June, while two youngsters are out to qualify for the U21 European Championship.

Nations League kick-off

Six VfL players will be involved when the Nations League group stage gets under way on 2 June. On Thursday, a Switzerland squad including Kevin Mbabu and Renato Steffen will play their first match against Czech Republic; on Friday Xaver Schlager (Austria) and Jonas Wind (Denmark) meet in the first of two head-to-heads in June, while Koen Casteels (Belgium) could also be in action. On Saturday Lukas Nmecha and Germany will take on Croatia. Each country will play four group matches by 14 June before heading for a well-deserved summer break. The last two group games are scheduled for September.

Bialek and van de Ven seek qualification

A number of the Wolves’ youth internationals, meanwhile, are in qualifying action for the U21 European Championship in 2023. Aster Vranckx (Belgium), Bartosz Bialek (Poland) and Micky van de Ven (Netherlands) all have qualifying games for the finals, which will be held in Georgia and Romania. Belgium have already secured their spot at the tournament ahead of their last match, while Poland still have two games to play, and the Netherlands three.
