With this year’s VfL Diversity Matchday, we are sending out a clear signal against hate speech – online, in the stands and in society.
Hate online and offline is no longer a marginal issue, but affects us all: players, fans and officials are increasingly experiencing hate speech, insults and threats on social media and in the stadium. Words have power: what starts as a comment on social media can hurt, intimidate and divide people. This not only harms the individual, but also the entire sport and society.
Football lives on passion, emotions and community – but when boundaries are overstepped, criticism can quickly turn into verbal violence.
VfL Wolfsburg stands for respect, fairness and diversity. That’s why we’re using the Diversity Matchday to send out a clear signal: for fair treatment of others in all places!
