The VfL ladies are through to the semi-finals of the DFB-Cup: In front of a crowd of 1,082 in the AOK Stadion, the Lady-Wolves secured a 2-1(0-0) quarter-final victory over SC Sand. The Green-Whites took control after the break thanks to a brace from Caroline Hansen(61', 66'). A subsequent goal from the penalty-spot by Isabelle Meyer (78') to reduce the deficit was too little to prevent VfL progressing to the next round.
"Delighted to be through to the next round"
VfL head-coach Stephan Lerch: "We got into the game well and created a number of good chances on goal within the first 20 minutes. We were hoping to score an early goal, in order to calm our game, but that unfortunately didn’t work out for us. In my opinion, we deservedly took the lead in the second-half and we then quickly added a second. The penalty then raised the tension once again. We wanted to pull together more and the team impressively displayed just that on the pitch – particularly in the final minutes when they wanted to maintain possession and showed some great body-language. We’re delighted to be through to the next round. On the whole, the victory is justified."
