Friendly win

Luca Horn and Felix Klaus got the goals in a 2-0 friendly victory over Phönix Lübeck.

The Wolves overcame promoted Regionalliga (fourth division) side 1. FC Phönix Lübeck 2-0 in a friendly arranged at short notice at the AOK Stadion. Oliver Glasner’s team scored twice in the second half through Horn (48’) and Klaus (59’).

The Green-and-Whites are in action again on Saturday 22 August when they face Holstein Kiel in a friendly at the AOK Stadion (kick-off 15:30 CEST). The fixture will again be streamed live on Wölfe TV.

“We had an incredible amount of chances”

VfL head coach Oliver Glasner: “The boys were very committed over the 90 minutes, but you could see and feel that we struggled a bit going forward and in the final third. Having said that, you have to remember that this is the fourth time this year that we’re trying to get into gear again: after the winter break in January, then after the coronavirus-enforced break, then for the Europa League and again now.

“In terms of determination and speed, we were better today than we were three days ago and we had an incredible amount of chances to score. But things are just a bit off right now. A good example of that today was with Omar Marmoush, who played superbly. Then he missed a chance against a fourth-tier outfit and was lying on the ground devastated as if it had been in the Champions League semi-final that’s taking place tonight. So you can see that everyone wants it, but things aren’t clicking together easily at the moment. We just need to stay calm, we still have four weeks to go.”
