Fourth signing secured

Germany international Kathrin Hendrich moves from FC Bayern Munich to VfL Women.

Those pulling the strings in terms of the transfer policy at VfL Women continue to be busy. After the signings of Pauline Bremer, Katarzyna Kiedrzynek and Lena Oberdorf, the next new recruit for the six-time German champions is Kathrin Hendrich. The 28-year-old Germany international has joined on a free transfer from FC Bayern Munich, putting pen to paper on a deal to keep her at VfL until 30 June 2022.

Olympic gold in Rio

Born in eastern Belgium where she also grew up, the defender has joint Belgian and German citizenship. She has made 212 Women’s Bundesliga appearances to date as well as another 26 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and 21 in the DFB Cup. Hendrich also has 34 caps for Germany and won Olympic gold in Rio in 2016.

“Great character“

“I’m looking forward to this new challenge with VfL Wolfsburg and want to help them achieve their goals in the coming season,“ the player said. Stephan Lerch, meanwhile, was more than pleased with the new signing. “I’m delighted that we have picked up an experienced defender in Kathy who will bolster us at the back,” the VfL head coach said. “Her pace and strength in the tackle will be a real asset to us, as will her great character.”
