After six successful seasons with VfL Wolfsburg Ladies, club captain Nilla Fischer will return to Sweden in summer 2019 to join Linköpings FC, where she has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Having joined VfL from three-time Swedish champions Linköpings in 2013, the centre-back comes full circle with the move. Although Fischer's contract at Wolfsburg was due to run until 2020, the 34-year-old has taken advantage of a release clause that enabled an early return to her homeland.

"It wasn't an easy decision," Fischer said. "Throughout my career I have taken my decisions as a footballer, but on this occasion I decided as a mother because we felt it was important for our son to grow up in a family environment. It was not a decision against VfL Wolfsburg, but rather one for my family. It has been an unforgettable time in Wolfsburg and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to play in such a brilliant personal and professional atmosphere. I only wish that every footballer gets the chance to play at a club like VfL. I'll enjoy my final year in a VfL shirt and give everything so that the team remains on the right track and wins as many trophies as possible."

"Nilla Fischer has given fantastic service to VfL Wolfsburg and will always be welcome at the AOK Stadion," said sporting director Ralf Kellermann. "Of course, we would have liked to have seen her in a Wolfsburg shirt for at least another season but we respect and understand her decision, made for her family. We wish her all the very best. It was important for both parties to establish clarity as early as possible in order to be able to plan for the future. We're now looking forward to the rest of the season with Nilla, and hopefully bringing the campaign to a successful conclusion."

Fischer has made 163 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg to date, winning three German titles, four DFB Cups and the 2014 UEFA Women's Champions League.
