First league win

The Wolves won 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 6.

Das Team vom VfL Wolfsburg bejubelt das 1:0 gegen Frankfurt. Lacroix zeigt dankend in den Himmel.

Maxence Lacroix’s fine 60th-minute header earned VfL Wolfsburg their first Bundesliga victory of the season. The Frenchman netted the only goal of the game as the Wolves battled to a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt, the reward for a strong defensive display.
VfL are on the road again next weekend, visiting 1. FC Union Berlin on Sunday 18 September. Kick-off at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei is 15:30 CEST.

Team news

VfL head coach Niko Kovac made three changes to the team that started the 4-2 defeat against 1. FC Köln: Lacroix returned in the centre of defence, with Mattias Svanberg and Josip Brekalo coming into the side as well. SGE boss Oliver Glasner also made three changes following the 3-0 loss at home to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, with Luca Pellegrini, Ansgar Knauff and Rafael Borre recalled.

Goal

1-0 Lacroix (60'): At last, the first away goal of this season! On the hour mark, Lacroix rises highest from Brekalo’s corner and beats goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who came out to claim the ball but misjudged.

Coaches’ reaction

Niko Kovac: “We’re very happy about this away victory and I want to congratulate the team because we made it hard for Eintracht and we put our bodies on the line. The players fought with passion, as we expect them to in this situation. It’s the first three points for us and hopefully the start of us continuing to play in this manner.”

Oliver Glasner: “It’s a deserved win for VfL Wolfsburg. I’m very disappointed about our performance today. That’s not how we want to or can play. We were slow, ponderous and had no cutting edge. It’s not the first time this season we’ve lost to a set-piece situation. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and have some very frank words.”
