First Team

Final say: St. Pauli

The key facts after Saturday’s home game against the Hamburg club.

VfL Wolfsburg’s winless home run was extended to four matches on Saturday after they were held to another draw by fellow northern outfit St. Pauli. The Wolves pushed for a late winner after Mohammed Amoura had made it 1-1 from the penalty spot, but VfL’s goalscorer and Jakub Kaminski both missed opportunities to grab a second goal as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side were made to settle for a share of the spoils.

The key facts and figures:

  • St. Pauli are without a win in six Bundesliga games but managed to halt their four-match losing run against the Wolves.

  • The Green-and-Whites have gone seven games without defeat for the first time under Hasenhüttl, although that run includes five draws.

  • The draw with St. Pauli extended Wolfsburg’s unbeaten home run against newly promoted sides to 17 matches (W10, D7).

  • After finding the net again on Saturday, Amoura was named Man of the Match by VfL fans for the ninth time this season. The Algerian received 37 per cent of the vote, placing him ahead of Kaminski (28 per cent) and goalkeeper Marius Müller (15 per cent) – who delivered another assured performance between the sticks.

  • This was St. Pauli’s first draw away from home in the Bundesliga this season.

  • For the first time in the division’s history, there has not been a single home victory in back-to-back Bundesliga matchdays.
