Borussia Mönchengladbach left Wolfsburg with all three points in the final game of Matchday 28 on Sunday. After taking an early lead in a fine first-half display, VfL let the game slip from their grasp after half-time as Ko Itakura (52’), Nathan Ngoumou (58’) and Rocco Reitz (88’) earned the visitors a 3-1 victory, leaving the Wolves just five points above the relegation play-off position in the Bundesliga.

Frustrating home debut: VfL head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, who succeeded Niko Kovac in mid-March and began his reign with a 2-0 victory at Werder Bremen, was beaten in his first home match in charge. On Saturday 13 April, Hasenhüttl’s men will aim to pick up another three points on the road at RB Leipzig – the Austrian’s former club.

Struggling on home soil: The Wolves are without a win in their last eight games in front of their own fans, equalling an unwanted club record. Their last home win was a 2-1 triumph over Leipzig on 25 November.

Baku ends barren spell: Ridle Baku’s seventh-minute opener was his first goal in over a year. He last found the net in a 5-0 win against Hertha BSC on 24 January 2023.
