It’s long since become a wonderful tradition, which not only the Wolves fans, but also the VfL pros have come to highly appreciate: The fan-evening during the training-camp has been the catalyst for a casual exchange between the professional footballers and the supporters in a relaxed atmosphere. On Friday evening, following the 3-1 win over FC St. Pauli in the first winter test-friendly, the tradition continued in Marbella, Spain, with the 50 enthusiastic VfL fans, who accompanied the Green-Whites to Andalusia for their winter preparations, mingling with the Wolves crew to learn some novelties, get some details on sporting issues and also impart some information on the fan-scene.
Garcia Sanz pays a visit
But the fans weren’t the only ones paying a visit to the special event. Chairman of the Supervisory Board and member of the directory committee of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH Dr. Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz also joined the event. After a couple of short, and at times quite entertaining, speeches from VfL Sporting director Olaf Rebbe and VfL head-coach Martin Schmidt, the stage was set for an interesting evening for all participating.
Arnold: "Familiar surroundings"
One old-hand, so far as fan-evenings are concerned, was Maximilian Arnold. The Wolves midfielder has participated in many such events and very much appreciates the principle: "I thoroughly enjoy these evenings, because you get to see how fascinated the people here are by the club. That’s very impressive. It’s very significant for the familiar surroundings which we strive to implement and maintain at VfL Wolfsburg. That is something we can consider ourselves very proud of." During the stay in Marbella, the VfL number 27 once again got some interesting insights into the lives of the VfL fans. "Today we had someone there from Switzerland, who tries to get to Wolfsburg as often as possible for home games. That’s quite a distance. On the other hand, we also had two fans there who always drive for two hours to be at every home game. I can really only raise my hat to that," commented the captivated Arnold.
