The women’s team from VfL Wolfsburg have comfortably booked their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. In the return-leg in the round of the final eight, following their clear first-leg victory, a 1-1 (0-1) draw away to SK Slavia Prague was enough for the Lady-Wolves. The Green-Whites went behind to a goal from Petra Divisova in the first-half (30‘), but after the break, Ewa Pajor equalised for VfL to make it 1-1 (68’) – which would ultimately prove the final result on the night.
Semi-final: "That is very positive"
VfL head-coach Stephan Lerch: We didn’t get into the game as we had set out to and defensively we lacked the necessary aggression and determination in the challenges. That resulted in Prague often getting into dangerous positions in front of our goal. On the offensive, we never got our passing game going and made a number of errors. Regardless as to who is on the pitch, we can play better than that. In the second-half we then improved, exerted more pressure and pressed Prague back into their own half. The equaliser was duly deserved. Unfortunately we couldn’t turn it into a victory, but we have progressed to the next round and that is very positive.
