Dickenmann sidelined

Lara Dickenmann faces several months out of action after suffering a serious knee injury.

Switzerland's all-time most-capped player, who only recently signed a contract extension with the VfL Ladies, will be sidelined for the foreseeable future. The 32-year-old sustained the injury to her left knee in a tackle early on in the Green-Whites' UEFA Women's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening. Subsequent tests revealed a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament, as well as tears in the medial collateral ligament and the meniscus.

"A big blow"

"I really feel for Lara and the news is a big blow for us too, because she's a key player and someone we were counting on for the season," said head coach Stephan Lerch, who led the She-Wolves to a league and cup double in 2017/18. "I hope she has strength and a lot of patience over the next few weeks and months. She'll get all the support she needs from us."
