Pia-Sophie Wolter has joined league rivals Eintracht Frankfurt on an initial season-long loan. The 25-year-old, who is under contract at VfL Wolfsburg until 30 June 2025, signed for the She-Wolves from SV Werder Bremen ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. She has since made 62 appearances in the Women’s Bundesliga, as well as 16 in the DFB Cup and 12 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The midfielder has also won one cap for the German national team.
“Anything but easy”
“The decision to leave VfL Wolfsburg was anything but easy,” said Wolter. “I got to enjoy many great moments with the team and the fans and have made very good friends here. Even so, it’s now time for me to embark on a new journey as I feel my chances of playing more games than last season are better in Frankfurt. I’m grateful to the VfL management for facilitating the move.”
“Exemplary commitment”
Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg: “Pia settled in very quickly and improved as a footballer after her move from Bremen. With over 20 competitive appearances in each of her first three seasons with us, she was a key part of our squad and caught the eye of the German national team during that period. Since tearing her cruciate knee ligament in October 2021, she’s not been given the playing time she was hoping for, which is partly due to the increased competition in the squad. By loaning her to Eintracht Frankfurt, we’ve fulfilled Pia’s understandable wish for more game time. We wish Pia all the best on a personal level and thank her for her unwavering, exemplary commitment in a green and white shirt.”
