VfL Wolfsburg Women and their Eintracht Frankfurt counterparts met in a top-of-the-table clash in the FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga a few weeks ago, and the teams locked horns once again on Wednesday in a friendly in the Portuguese town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. The She-Wolves, who were missing head coach Tommy Stroot, ended up losing 3-2, with Pia-Sophie Wolter and Dominique Janssen on target for the Green-and-Whites.

VfL are due to return home from their training camp in the Algarve on Friday. Before their first competitive league assignment against SC Freiburg on Saturday 4 February (kick-off 14:00 CET), they have two more friendlies on the calendar. RB Leipzig are up first on 24 January (at 14:00 CET), followed by Swedish runners-up BK Häcken on 28 January (also at 14:00 CET).

Reaction

Sabrina Eckhoff: "The result of the friendly isn't relevant and it's also not the first thing we look at. Anyone who saw the last few minutes could see that we didn't give up without a fight. We did everything we could to make it 3-3. But today we were more interested in other aspects. There were certain things we worked on in training last week that we wanted to see in the game today. We learned some important lessons from that and are very satisfied."
