VfL Women slipped to a 2-1 reverse against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

VfL Wolfsburg Women lost for the first time this season, the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga leaders falling to a 2-1 defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. If closest pursuers Bayern Munich win their away match at SV Werder Bremen on Sunday, then the gap to second place will be reduced to just two points. The She-Wolves took the lead against Hoffenheim but subsequently made too many errors and it was ultimately a deserved defeat.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “Congratulations to Hoffenheim on a deserved win. We started the game very well and went 1-0 up, but then we got worse with every passing minute in the first half and lost our courage. They scored their equaliser too easily. We didn’t play the way we normally do. Now we have to look forward again as quickly as possible.”

Goals

  • 1-0 Brand (1st minute): What a start! After receiving the ball from Sveindis Jonsdottir, Jule Brand sets off on a run, skipping past Katharina Naschenweng and then goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic. The former Hoffenheim player, who also found the net in the reverse fixture, opens the scoring after 45 seconds.

  • 1-1 Linder (44th minute): A Naschenweng cross from the left finds Sarai Linder. Dominique Janssen and Felicitas Rauch close her down but the ball deflects off the latter as she challenges for possession and flies into the net.

  • 1-2 Billa (70th minute): After a long ball forward, Melissa Kössler shows composure to find Nicole Billa, who leaves Merle Frohms no chance in the VfL goal.
