The VfL Ladies ended their training camp in Austria with victory over FC Twente in their last pre-season friendly before the start of the new campaign. Alexandra Popp netted twice (1’/17’) with Caroline Hansen (16’) and Ella Masar (70’) also scoring in a 4-0 win against the Dutch champions. Interim Germany head coach Horst Hrubesch and former VfL assistant coach Britta Carlson, who now occupies the same role for the national team, were in attendance at the Ramsbachstadion in Walchsee. The VfL Ladies begin their 2018/19 season on the weekend of 8/9 September with a trip to Hannover 96 in the second round of the DFB Cup.
Head coach Stephan Lerch: “I’m very pleased that we were rewarded for our play and managed to score four goals. We created several chances again, even though we got pushed back deeper and deeper. Right from kick-off you could see that the team want to move the ball and their opponents around. That allowed us to create some very clear chances that we took well and we scored some nicely worked goals. It was a very positive ending to our training camp and we can go back to Wolfsburg feeling pleased.”
