One of the most exciting female players in world football has opted for a long-term future in Wolfsburg. Pernille Harder, the Danish international in the double-winning squad, has extended her current contract with the Lady-Wolves ahead of time for a further year beyond 2019. The new deal binds Harder to VfL until June 30th, 2020. "Pernille is one of the most complete attacking players in women’s football at the moment. She has world-class calibre and, in addition to her individual class, she is also a great servant to the team. Since Pernille joined us last year, she immediately developed into an absolute leader. The fact that she has now extended her contract is a fantastic sign. Together with her, we want to maintain our place at the very top of international football in the future," commented Ralf Kellermann, Sporting director of women’s football at VfL.

Best scorer in the league

Pernille Harder made a free transfer from top Swedish club Linköpings FC to the Green-Whites in January 2017 and has since scored 70 goals in 87 appearances for VfL. In her first season in Wolfsburg, the 25 year old, who has already won 93 ‘A’ international caps with Denmark, became a domestic league and cup double-winner with VfL Wolfsburg. Harder is currently not only a league leader with coach Stephan Lerch’s side, but, with eleven goals to her credit in the first half of the season, she is the clear top-scorer in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga.

Denmark’s Female Player of the Year

"I am delighted about my new contract. Wolfsburg is the best location for me to develop further and to win titles. The aspirations of the club completely and perfectly match my own personal ambitions," explained harder, who was recently voted Denmark’s ‘Female Player of the Year‘ for the third year in succession and the fourth time in total.

Further planning security

Within a short space of time, harder has become the fourth leader within the squad to sign an early contract extension and extend her cooperation with the Lady-Wolves. Previously, Lena Goeßling (until 2019), Noelle Maritz and Ewa Pajor (both until 2020) extended their deals with the three time German champions, twice Champions League winners and four time DFB-Cup champions.
