Comfortable away win

The She-Wolves eased to a 2-0 victory at RB Leipzig.

After a three-week break, VfL Wolfsburg returned to Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga action with a 2-0 win away to RB Leipzig on Matchday 16. Jule Brand, making her 100th appearance in the Women’s Bundesliga, netted the opening goal in the first half, before new signing Ella Peddemors sealed the three points late on with her first goal for the club. The win lifts the Green-and-Whites up to second place for now, with Bayern Munich playing on Sunday.

The defending champions from Munich are also VfL Women’s next opponents in six days’ time, on Friday 14 March, when the two rivals meet at the FC Bayern Campus (kick-off 16:55 CET).

Goals

  • 0-1 Jule Brand (35’): After the ball initially bounces away from Brand following a cross from Lynn Wilms, it ricochets off her opponent again, allowing Brand to get to the ball and slot it into the bottom right-hand corner from around 14 metres. There's the lead for the She-Wolves, who had dominated the first third of the match.

  • 0-2 Ella Peddemors (85’): Ella opens her account! Vivien Endemann advances down the right flank and crosses it straight to Peddemors in the box, who only has to slot it home. That’s the Dutchwoman’s first goal in a VfL shirt and a deserved 2-0 lead.

Reaction

Sabrina Eckhoff: “We’re generally very pleased with our performance. We could’ve made it a bit easier for ourselves if we’d utilised one or two opportunities in transition better and scored the second goal sooner. We knew this match would have different phases though. Overall we managed these phases successfully and we’re very happy about it. It’s always nice to keep a clean sheet and get the rewards for our defending. That also makes it easy to go home with a win. We could’ve scored one or two more goals earlier on, which would’ve made it a calmer game, especially with the moments Leipzig had on the counter, but we’ll take this.”
