The UEFA Women’s Champions League is returning to the Volkswagen Arena. On 18 or 19 March, VfL Wolfsburg Women will play the first leg of their UWCL quarter-final tie – against either Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea – on home soil. The She-Wolves will have to wait until the draw in Nyon on 7 February to find out which of those big-name clubs they will face, but the Arena has already been confirmed as the venue for the highly anticipated last-eight clash.
Third visit to the Arena
The UWCL quarter-final first leg will be the She-Wolves’ third visit to the Volkswagen Arena this season. Tommy Stroot’s side, who normally play their home games at the AOK Stadion, eased to a 2-0 Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga victory over Bayern Munich in front of 17,152 fans back in October. Their Matchday 15 clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on 16 February has also been moved to the big stage.
“After our top-of-the-table match against Bayern Munich, we’re now looking forward to having two more big She-Wolves games at the Volkswagen Arena in front of our fans,” said Peter Christiansen, VfL’s managing director for sport. “The team have made an impressive return to the European stage this season and have left themselves in an excellent position going into the rest of the campaign.”
VfL Women last played a Champions League tie at the Volkswagen Arena in spring 2023, when 22,617 fans witnessed a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the semi-final first leg.
