Women

Big win at bottom club

VfL Women beat MSV Duisburg 4-0 away.

VfL Wolfsburg Women extended their winning run to 10 consecutive FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga games thanks to a 4-0 triumph at bottom club MSV Duisburg. Alexandra Popp, Lena Oberdorf, Rebecka Blomqvist and Fridolina Rolfö got the goals for the She-Wolves, who remain second in the standings. Goalkeeper Almuth Schult made her comeback, 721 days since her last appearance in a 1-0 away win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, following a shoulder injury and the birth of her twins.

Title decider against Bayern

The result means the Green-and-Whites have won every league match since losing 4-1 to FC Bayern Munich in the first half of the season. They exacted a measure of revenge for that defeat with a 2-0 triumph over Bayern in the DFB Cup semi-finals, and should VfL beat the league leaders again on Sunday 9 May (kick-off 14:00 CEST), they will go into the final two fixtures of the campaign at the top of the table.

“Commanding and dominant”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We kept the tempo high and put our opponents under pressure. Then it was just a matter of time until Duisburg’s strength began to fade. It was important today that we accepted the game as it was on this uneven pitch. At the end of the day, we did our job in a commanding and dominant manner.”
