Back to work

Pre-season training ahead of the 2020/21 campaign has begun.

Oliver Glasner’s charges got their preparations for the new season under way with a double shift on Thursday, with a gym workout followed by a session out on the pitch.

Otavio and Mehmedi involved

In addition to long-term absentee Ignacio Camacho, Glasner remains without Brazilian right-back William, who is still recovering from cruciate ligament damage he sustained six months ago. However, recently injured duo Paulo Otavio (ankle) and Admir Mehmedi (Achilles tendon) were both back out on the pitch, and after taking part in most of the exercises with their teammates, the pair will be reincorporated into full training again soon.

Familiar faces back in the fold

The Wolves may not have made any summer signings as yet, but they have welcomed back three players who were out on loan last season: Jeffrey Bruma (Mainz), Yunus Malli (Union Berlin) and John Yeboah (VVV-Venlo). Kevin Mbabu, who was recently in quarantine following a positive coronavirus test, was also back with the squad.

Intensive month ahead

VfL will get their first chance to see how they are progressing on Saturday 15 August, when they take on Eintracht Braunschweig – who were promoted to Bundesliga 2 last season – in a behind-closed-doors encounter at the AOK Stadion (kick-off 11:00 CEST).

Following further friendlies, Glasner’s side will have their first competitive assignment of the 2020/21 season in mid-September when they meet either SV Babelsberg or FSV Union Fürstenwalde in the first round of the DFB Cup.
