Lady-Wolves coach Stephan Lerch is expecting an aggressive opponent in SC Sand this Saturday.

75 days - or ten weeks and five days - have passed since the Lady-Wolves' last home game at the AOK Stadion (3-1 win against FC Bayern Munich) - but the Green-Whites will finally be back in action on their own home turf this Saturday, February 23rd (kick-off 14:00 CET). The VfL ladies face SC Sand, as they look to solidify their position at the top of the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga, before league action again takes a three week break for a round of international games. Prior to the clash with the eighth placed side in the table, on Thursday, VfL coach Stephen Lerch spoke to the gathered press representatives about …

… the first home game in the latter half of the season: We are really looking forward to the first home game of the year and to playing in the AOK Stadion. We have always performed well here in the past, we are familiar with the surroundings and know the general conditions. It’s certainly not a disadvantage for us to be playing at home.

…the current physical state of the Lady-Wolves following their first competitive games of 2018: The team worked very well during the winter-preparations. Thanks to our good, broad squad, we had amazing quality in training. We are headed in a very good direction and must continue in that manner, so that we can soon play football over an entire ninety minutes as we intend to.

…the personnel situation: There are still one or two question marks. It’s clear that Ewa Pajor will miss out with a back problem, but she is progressing well. Tessa Wullaert and Lena Goeßling were both put out of the reckoning recently through illness. There remains a major doubt over Tessa’s availability, because she was out of training for a longer period. For Lena it’s less significant, as she was out for a shorter period. We will make a final decision on both of them this Friday. Katharina Baunach also needs some more time before she is an option again. The rest of the players are available for selection.
