First Team

All or nothing?

Everything you need to know about the Wolves’ meeting with northern rivals Werder.

When VfL welcome SV Werder Bremen to the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday 5 November (15:30 CET) – just five days after knocking DFB Cup holders Leipzig out of the competition – they won’t just be facing the Bundesliga’s only other northern club. The two teams also have the most evenly balanced head-to-head record in the top flight, having won 20 games each, shared the spoils on ten occasions and scored 89 goals apiece. Intriguingly, though, both VfL and Werder have yet to draw a game this season.

More facts and figures on the home match with Bremen

  • Only one of the sides’ 50 Bundesliga encounters has ended goalless.

  • Ole Werner’s team have not enjoyed playing on a Sunday lately, losing their last six such matches.

  • Werder’s away record is also in need of improvement – they have lost every game on the road this season, including in the DFB Cup.

  • However, Bremen have avoided defeat in five of their previous six visits to the Volkswagen Arena (W2 D3).

  • Jonas Wind has scored eight – or 62 per cent – of the Wolves’ 13 Bundesliga goals so far, the biggest contribution of any player in the league this season. VfL’s other five goals have all been scored by different players.
