In their first home game of the year, the Lady-Wolves beat SC Sand 2-0.

With a 2-0 (1-0) victory over SC Sand on Saturday, the VfL Wolfsburg women not only boosted their points tally but also extended their advantage over the second placed side in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga. As FC Bayern Munich, who had been second, lost 0-2 away to SC Freiburg, the side from the Breisgau region overtook FCB, who are now five points adrift of the Green-Whites. The goals, in a game which was conducted almost exclusively in the visitors half of the pitch, we scored by Pernille Harder, with a header (38') and Zsanett Jakabfi, with a clever chip (82'). Due to the break for a round of international games, fans of the VfL women will have to wait some three weeks to see their side back in action again. On Wednesday, March 14th, SC Sand will again be the guests in the AOK Stadion, for the DFB-Cup quarter-final clash.

"Found the solutions"

VfL head-coach Stephan Lerch: We got into the game very well, were dominant right from the outset and got our opponents chasing the ball. That’s something we wanted to do better than we had done the previous week in Hoffenheim and we achieved that. We wanted to get in behind the opposition defence down the wings, which often worked very well, but the final pass often let us down – until we then took a deserved lead. In the second-half, Sand applied more pressure. We at times couldn’t find the footballing solutions and then played some long balls. That led to counter-attacks, from which we wasted our opportunities to score a second. The team never let anything through at the back and, on the offensive, they found the solutions against a compact opponent. Therefore I am satisfied with the performance.
