A decade in Green-White

VfL goalkeeper coach Andreas Hilfiker celebrates a rare professional anniversary.

A decade at the same club – a feat which has become something of a rarity these days in professional football! Andreas Hilfiker has achieved exactly that: At the end of January 2008, the Swiss goalkeeper coach began his service at VfL – and remains in that position today. From Simon Jentzsch through the club’s all-time record appearance maker Diego Benaglio and on to the Wolves current first-choice between the posts, Koen Casteels, the 48-year-old, who was a Swiss international and a Bundesliga goalkeeper with 1. FC Nürnberg, has made several great VfL keepers fit for top-level action. And what is particularly noticeable in our photo gallery of Hilfiker’s ten years at VfL Wolfsburg: In spite of the thrills of title wins and the tensions of relegation threats, Hilfiker has barely changed at all.
