VfL Wolfsburg earned a third win from their third home game of the season thanks to a Jonas Wind double in a 2-0 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Danish forward struck once in each half (31', 84') in front of a crowd of over 28,000 at the Volkswagen Arena, taking his tally to seven Bundesliga goals this season as the Wolves produced a strong performance and impressed with their swift link-up play.
VfL's superiority was even more noticeable in the final half an hour after Mario Götze was sent off for a second bookable offence. The result means Niko Kovac's side have now won four Bundesliga games in 2023/24, while inflicting a first defeat of the season on Eintracht.
Goals
- 1-0 Jonas Wind (31'): Lovro Majer beats two defenders and gets a shot away. Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp can only parry the ball out to the side, where Wind is lurking to prod in the rebound from close range!
- 2-0 Jonas Wind (84'): Referee Frank Willenborg points to the spot after a foul on VfL substitute Kevin Paredes. Trapp goes the right way and saves Wind's penalty, but can do nothing to prevent the forward tucking in the follow-up.
Remarks
Wind's first goal was his sixth of 2023/24, matching the tally he managed across the whole of last season. His second goal was also noteworthy as he is now the first VfL player ever to have seven goals after the first six matchdays of a Bundesliga season.
