The She-Wolves beat Hoffenheim 3-0 to reach the DFB Cup semi-finals.

Die Mannschaft des VfL Wolfsburg steht im Kreis und jubelt zusammen über den Treffer gegen die TSG Hoffenheim.

VfL Wolfsburg Women’s dream of reaching a tenth successive DFB Cup final remains intact after they beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3-0 in the quarter-finals on Tuesday evening. In front of 1,996 spectators at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion, the home side made a bold start to the match and caused the She-Wolves problems in the final third. But the visitors, who were without Lena Oberdorf (illness) and Ewa Pajor (knee), defended well and were 2-0 in front at half-time thanks to headers from Jule Brand (27’) and Alexandra Popp (45’+2), with both goals coming from set pieces. VfL had more of the ball in the second half and completed the scoring when Vivien Endemann struck three minutes into added time.

Goals

  • 0-1 Brand (27’): Nuria Rabano delivers a corner high into the penalty area from the right-hand side, and Brand rises highest to send an unstoppable header into the net.

  • 0-2 Popp (45’+2): The She-Wolves extend their lead from another corner. Svenja Huth’s excellent delivery from the left is met by Popp, who steers a powerful header into the right corner.

  • 0-3 Endemann (90’+3): Endemann is desperate to get her name on the scoresheet after missing several earlier opportunities – and the forward is rewarded for her efforts in added time. Laura Dick’s clearance lands at the feet of Sveindis Jonsdottir, who plays in Endemann to complete the scoring with virtually the last kick of the game.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “Although we were without Lena Oberdorf and Ewa Pajor, we got into the game well. We could have made it 3-0 earlier on, but at the end of the day we’re obviously happy that we reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup.”
