VfL Wolfsburg played out their first stalemate of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season on Matchday 10 as Werder Bremen held Niko Kovac’s side to a 2-2 draw. Vaclav Cerny (37’) and Kevin Paredes (59’) made the scoresheet in front of 28,917 spectators at a sold-out Volkswagen Arena, with Marvin Ducksch (7’) and Rafael Borre (65’) on target for the visitors. The Green-and-Whites stay in ninth place in the standings.
Goals
- 0-1 Ducksch (7’): An avoidable goal to concede. Despite having plenty of bodies back, VfL give away a free-kick in a dangerous position. Ducksch sends an unstoppable shot over the wall and beyond Pavao Pervan into the net, with a little help from the inside of the post.
- 1-1 Cerny (37’): A wonderful move leads to a deserved Wolves equaliser. Joakim Maehle runs onto a Mattias Svanberg pass, gets to the byline and pulls the ball back for Cerny, who steers it through the legs of a Werder defender and the goalkeeper for his second goal in as many games.
- 2-1 Paredes (59’): Just as Werder are starting to apply pressure, another magnificent VfL move completes the turnaround. Jonas Wind feeds Maehle, whose cross into the six-yard box is flicked on into Paredes’ path by Lovro Majer. The American is left with a simple finish.
- 2-2 Borre (65’): Simple but effective. Borre rises highest to meet Mitchell Weiser’s precise cross from the right and restores parity with an unstoppable header.
