"We have to work hard"

Bruno Labbadia is demanding discipline from his men against SC Freiburg.

With six games to go in the current Bundesliga season, the Wolves remain entrenched in the battle for top-flight survival following last week's 0-0 draw at Hertha Berlin. On Saturday 7 April the Green-Whites are away to an SC Freiburg side that sit 14th in the Bundesliga standings, just one place and four points ahead of VfL (kick-off 15:30 CET). At the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Wolfsburg head coach Bruno Labbadia fielded questions from the media representatives about…

… his expectations of the clash: "It'll be a demanding game. That’s something that Freiburg are known for. They're a team that work very well together as a unit. The game will require a great deal of discipline from both sides."

… VfL’s most recent Bundesliga outings: "Against Schalke and Hertha it was clear to see that we have to work hard in order to score; goals aren't just going to fall into our laps. We should have been given a penalty in the 78th minute against Schalke. In future though, it'll be important for us to be clinical with the opportunities that come our way."

... the playing style in the current situation: "Attacking inspiration is not a given in our situation. When you try to stay organised and keep your shape, you need to be focused on the few chances that come your way. Right now we need a moment of success, as that would help the lads and they could draw fresh inspiration from it."

… the personnel situation: "Josuha Guilavogui is unavailable following his dismissal in Berlin. Jeffrey Bruma is undergoing treatment on a viral infection and won't play on Saturday either. We sent Felix Uduokhai to a specialist a few days ago in the hope that he can still feature this season. John Anthony Brooks hasn't completed a full training session yet so isn't an option either. Sebastian Jung is currently doing some light jogging. We hope to have him and Jakub Blaszczykowski back training with us during the coming week."

… reserve team players stepping up to fill the void: "Considering the absentees in defence, Paul Jaeckel, who has previously been in the squad, is definitely an option we must consider. He's working really well in training, has been active with the pros for several weeks, is strong in challenges and also has great pace. Dominik Franke is also another option for the squad. He started training with us yesterday and will have the opportunity to prove himself in the time leading up to the game."
