Young Wolves back in action

U20s visit Hannover 96, B-Juniorinnen host leaders Aurich.

After a weekend without a game, VfL Women’s youth teams are back in action: the U20s travel to Hannover 96 on Sunday 4 October, with kick-off at 15:00. The B-Juniorinnen are in action a day earlier, hosting SpVg Aurich on Saturday 3 October (kick-off 14:00).

U20s away in Hannover

The U20 women currently sit seventh in the table with eight points. On Sunday, they face Hannover 96, who are currently fourth. Hannover have 11 points and are still unbeaten in the league this season. However, 96 suffered defeat in the AOK Niedersachsenpokal last weekend, losing 6-3 away to VfL Eintracht Hannover.

“Looking forward to the challenge”

“Hannover have had some good results recently. We’re therefore expecting an intense game and a real battle,” says VfL coach Rachel Lever, adding: “We want to take the energy from this week’s training and our last two games into the match and continue to build on those two very good performances. We’re making good progress in terms of how we want to play and are looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

B-Juniorinnen host the leaders

The B-Juniorinnen were also without a game last weekend. After three matches, the Young Wolves sit fifth in the table with seven points. On Saturday, they face current leaders SpVg Aurich. The visitors remain unbeaten after five games and have picked up the maximum 15 points. Aurich have already scored 24 goals while conceding just four. Last weekend, SpVg recorded a 2-1 victory over Altona 93.

“Want to show our development”

“As league leaders, Aurich obviously have plenty of quality. From my experience of playing them in the past, I know them as a physically strong side who are good in the challenges and play a lot of long balls,” says VfL coach Markus Herbst. However, the Young Wolves’ focus this week has primarily been on their own game: “We’ve tried to work through what we learned from the Viktoria game and continue working on our own patterns of play. At the weekend, the girls need to show on the pitch that they’ve understood what we worked on in training this week and have continued to develop. We’re at home and will do everything we can to make sure the three points stay here.”
