VfL Wolfsburg’s squad for next season continues to take shape after the Wolves completed the signing of Vinicius de Souza Costa. More commonly known as Vini Souza, the Brazilian joins the Wolves from English second-tier side Sheffield United on a contract through to 30 June 2030. He will wear the number 5 shirt.

A versatile central midfielder, the 26-year-old is known for his strength in the tackle and intelligence on the pitch. “Vini brings a lot of experience from different leagues,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “We’ve followed his development at his various clubs over the years. We’re delighted he has now decided to join VfL Wolfsburg. We’re convinced Vini will strengthen our team with his way of playing football.”
Spells in Brazil, Belgium, Spain and England
Souza cut his teeth in the renowned youth academy of Rio-based outfit Flamengo, where he was also given his first taste of first-team football. He moved to Europe in October 2020, when he signed for Belgian second-division club Lommel SK. Loan spells with KV Mechelen and Spanish club Espanyol followed, before a permanent move to Sheffield United in summer 2023. He appeared in 36 Premier League games for the Blades, as well as two FA Cup ties and 38 Championship matches following the club’s relegation from the top flight.
