In the first test match of this year’s winter training camp, VfL Wolfsburg’s women’s team secured a 2-0 (1-0) victory over PSV Eindhoven in milder temperatures but windy conditions. Ella Peddemors scored the deserved 1-0 lead for the Wolves just before halftime (45+1). After the break, it was Kessya Bussy who increased the lead to 2-0 shortly before the hour mark.
Match Summary
The opening phase of the game was characterized by cautious play, with no notable scoring chances in the first minutes. In the 20th minute, Svenja Huth appeared in the box after a successful cross from the left side but placed the ball too centrally for the PSV goalkeeper. Shortly after, Luca Papp tried her luck from distance, but the Belgian keeper parried the shot for a corner (21’). As the game progressed, the Wolves pressed more often near PSV’s goal, but nothing came of it initially. Around the half-hour mark, Eindhoven threatened the VfL goal for the first time: Lore Jacobs received a through ball and shot from inside the box, but Martina Tufekovic cleared it for a corner (34’). Wolfsburg remained offensively active. Lineth Beerensteyn drove forward from midfield toward the PSV goal. Substituted Bussy entered the box, but her shot was blocked at the last second (36’). Through aggressive pressing, the Wolves forced PSV into mistakes, allowing Peddemors to regain the ball in the box and pass to Huth – whose attempt, however, could not be converted (39’). Three minutes later, Beerensteyn had another opportunity, unexpectedly receiving the ball in the Dutch box, but her close-range shot went over the goal (42’). Just before halftime, the deserved 1-0 for the Green-Whites arrived: After a goal kick, Peddemors reacted lightning-fast, took advantage of PSV’s lapse in concentration, and calmly slotted the ball over the line (45+1’).
