VfL Wolfsburg Women had their first training session at Elsterweg after the summer break on Friday afternoon, marking the official start of the 2025/26 season for the Green-and-Whites. It was also the first session in charge for new head coach Stephan Lerch and his staff.
“Good tempo and everyone enjoyed it”
The She-Wolves took to the pitch in glorious sunshine for what was a sweat-inducing 75-minute workout that included a number of passing drills.
“There was a good tempo and everyone enjoyed it,” said team captain Alexandra Popp afterwards. Among the 16 players who took part were five summer arrivals – Martina Tufekovic, Christina Schönwetter, Janou Levels, Judit Pujols and Kessya Bussy – while Weronika Arasniewicz and Anny Kerim-Lindland were also involved from the U20 squad. Additionally, another youth player currently on trial participated in the session.
Ten squad members were absent, however, due to the UEFA Women’s European Championship presently taking place in Switzerland. Guro Bergsvand was unable to train because of a foot injury, while Sharn Freier worked individually owing to a knock.
