VfL Wolfsburg Women began the 2025/26 Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season with a 3-3 draw away to Hamburger SV. The She-Wolves dominated at the Volksparkstadion from the outset, but the home side – roared on by the 11,934 fans in attendance – managed to keep the game on a knife’s edge until the final whistle.
The Green-and-Whites gave their hosts too much space in the closing stages, ultimately allowing them to fight back and clinch a point. Lineth Beerensteyn (27’), Janina Minge (29’) and Alexandra Popp (52’) got the goals for VfL.
Goals
- 0-1 Beerensteyn (27’): Ella Peddemors plays a fine through-ball into the penalty area and finds Lineth Beerensteyn, who coolly slots in the opening goal.
- 0-2 Minge (pen. 29’): Hamburg goalkeeper Laura Sieger brings Beerensteyn down inside the box and referee Angelika Söder points straight to the spot. Minge steps up and confidently convers the penalty into the right-hand corner.
- 1-2 Hillebrand (31’): Hamburg’s Maria Mikolajova’s powerful drive is tipped onto the crossbar by Stina Johannes, who then collides with a post. Sophie Hillebrand is in the right place at the right time to prod the rebound over the line.
- 1-3 Popp (52’): Janou Levels gets the better of HSV’s Jobina Verena Lahr down the left and crosses into the middle for Popp, who heads in VfL’s third of the game.
- 2-3 Brunnthaler (81’): Out of the blue, Hamburg reduce the deficit. Melanie Brunnthaler beats two She-Wolves in an aerial duel and then smashes an unstoppable shot past Johannes and into the top corner.
- 3-3 Meyer (90’+8): This can’t be happening! A free-kick from about 25 yards out somehow hits the inside of the right-hand post and goes over the line before Johannes can grab it.
