VfL Women do it again

She-Wolves get 10-0 win in Hannover friendly.

Die VfL-Wolfsburg-Frauen beim jubeln.

Twenty goals in two matches… The She-Wolves had already beaten Sparta Prague 10-0 last Friday and they repeated the feat in their final friendly of winter camp. On Wednesday evening on Pitch A outside the Volkswagen Arena, they saw off Hannover 96 10-0. Around 110 fans stood around the pitch and watched on as the She-Wolves imposed themselves on the match right from the opening kick-off, against their opposition who are currently second in the Regionalliga Nord.

The Green-and-Whites had little to do in the way of defensive duties, while up front they were able to work a little more on their combinations. Fenna Kalma (5’/45’), Sveindis Jonsdottir (36’/56’) and Alexandra Popp (66’/69’) all scored twice, with the remaining goals coming from Riola Xhemaili (37’), Ewa Pajor (42’), Svenja Huth (70’) and Vivien Endemann (82’). Perhaps the best statistic to come out of the four friendlies that VfL Women have played during their winter pre-season preparations is that they did not concede a single goal.

The team has another four days to iron out any last wrinkles before getting back to Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga action on Monday 29 January at 19.30 CET, when they play their first competitive match of 2024 away at SGS Essen.

Tommy Stroot: “Compared with the match against Prague, I could see an improvement in the way that we created our goals. Today we scored more goals from build-up play, which wasn’t easy when you look at how the weather was. These were well-made goals and we were on the right wavelength around the box. We were less called on at the back tonight than we had been in recent matches, but in all four games, we found a solid way of defending, and I’m very pleased with that.”
