“Utmost quality in every match”

What VfL head coach Tommy Stroot had to say ahead of VfL Women’s clash with AS Roma.

Tuesday evening sees the She-Wolves kick off the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League away to the Italian Champions, with the Green-and-Whites taking on AS Roma at the Stadio Tre Fontane (kick-off: 18.45 CEST). VfL head coach Tommy Stroot said that his team is expecting a “tough game” against a “mature side”.

Italian double-winners

In the past six years, AS Roma’s women’s team has won both the league and the Italian Cup on two occasions and also the Supercup, and for the first time last season, they did the league and cup double. This season, Roma Femminile currently sit fourth, with nine points from five matches.

VfL head coach Tommy Stroot spoke ahead of the match about…

…team news: “The same players who were out last week are still unavailable. Ariana Arias and Luca Papp are also out of the squad [having not yet trained enough after coming back from injury].”

…their opponents: “We have enormous respect for Roma. The last time we played them was two years ago and we know about most of their squad, although they do have one or two new players, obviously. They played in a very mature way when we faced them two years ago. They’ve clearly got an Italian style about them, which means they’re streetwise at certain times. They’ll be trying to make the most of their home advantage, so we’ll be expecting a tough game in Rome.”

…the importance of the match: “We need to get through every round, and to cause a few upsets against sides who maybe on paper make us the underdogs. We know that we have to produce the utmost quality in every match.”
