Unbeaten against Fortuna

All the facts and figures ahead of VfL’s home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The Wolves welcome Fortuna to the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 16 March (kick-off 15:30 CET) with fond memories of October’s clash at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, which the Green-Whites won 3-0 thanks to Wout Weghorst’s penalty and further goals from Josip Brekalo and Daniel Ginczek. We’ve collated the key facts and figures ahead of the return match:

  • VfL are unbeaten in their seven competitive games against Düsseldorf, winning four and drawing three. The Wolves have won two of their three Bundesliga meetings with Fortuna, with the only previous top-flight encounter at the Volkswagen Arena ending in a 1-1 draw.
  • Friedhelm Funkel’s side have scored 12 goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season. However, Fortuna’s defence could be set for a busy afternoon against the Wolves, who have converted more big chances than any other Bundesliga club this term.
  • Düsseldorf’s defeat at Bayer 04 Leverkusen last month was their only reverse in their last five away matches. Fortuna’s impressive form on their travels has helped them climb from bottom of the table – a position they occupied on Matchday 14 – to 11th place.
  • The Wolves are second in the table when it comes to tackle success in Germany’s top flight this season, having won 51 per cent of their duels. Only leaders Bayern Munich can top that with 53 per cent.
