In the final round of international fixtures on Tuesday evening, Felix Uduokhai scored a last-minute winner in the Germany Under-21 team’s friendly against old rivals England. Meanwhile, VfL’s Swiss duo Admir Mehmedi and Renato Steffen experienced an incredible 3-3 draw for their national team against Denmark in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying, and John Brooks was rested as USA drew 1-1 in a friendly with Chile.
Last-gasp victory
Germany U-21s sent out a message in their final friendly before this summer’s Under-21 European Championship in Italy and San Marino, beating England 2-1 in front of a full house in Bournemouth. Wolves defender Uduokhai netted the winning goal for Stefan Kuntz’s side in the dying minutes.
Switzerland throw away 3-0 lead
In Group D of Euro 2020 qualifying, Switzerland somehow let slip a 3-0 lead against Denmark in the final 10 minutes of the match. Mehmedi entered the fray in the 71st minute while VfL team-mate Steffen remained on the bench. The draw leaves the Nati in second place in the group behind Ireland.
Across the ocean, Brooks was also an unused substitute in USA’s 1-1 draw with Chile overnight.
Youngsters in action
Some of VfL’s youngsters were also involved in international action. John Yeboah was on the scoresheet for Germany Under-19s in their 3-0 win in Hungary, while the Itter brothers were involved in a 2-0 win for the U-20 side in Poland.
