Thea Bjelde signs with VfL

Versatile Norway international will join the She-Wolves next month

VfL Wolfsburg Women have added another experienced international to their ranks after completing the signing of Norwegian Thea Bjelde, who will join the She-Wolves on a free transfer from Valerenga on 1 July. The two-footed, versatile 25-year-old has signed a contract through to 30 June 2028.

“Right place for me”

“Joining VfL feels like the perfect next step in my career,” said Bjelde. “The club is synonymous with great tradition, ambitious goals and a passionate fan base, which is why I made the conscious decision to come to Wolfsburg. I think it’s the right place for me to develop as a player and be part of a team that wants to achieve great things together. I can’t wait to get started at VfL and give my all for the club.”

“Great addition at full-back”

“With her international experience, pace and versatility, Thea is a perfect fit for our squad next season,” said a delighted Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. “We’re convinced she’ll be a great addition to our team in the full-back area in particular.”

Established international

Bjelde made her Toppserien debut for Arna-Bjornar Fotbal back on 17 August 2016. After making 70 league appearances for the club in the top flight and cup, she signed for Valerenga in summer 2021. She played 117 games in all competitions for the Oslo-based side, including 12 in the qualifying rounds and group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She also won two league titles and two Norwegian Women’s Cups during her time in the capital.

Bjelde has represented Norway at various youth levels, playing at both the European U17 and U19 Championships. After making her senior international debut in a friendly against Brazil on 7 October 2022, she started all four of Norway’s World Cup matches in Australia and New Zealand the following year. While Bjelde has mainly been deployed as a midfielder at Valerenga, she is used as a full-back at international level. The 25-year-old has won 28 caps to date, making her one of the more senior players in the squad.
